TENSIONES, EJERCICIO/EXCERCISE

Performative sound installation for the exhibition ‘History of Art’ by Metro 21, at Factoría Franklin in Santiago de Chile, 2021.

Within the context of the exhibition ‘History of Art’ organized by Metro 21 at Factoría Franklin, I was invited to collaborate with Simón a.k.a. Saintrobot to experiment with the intersection between painting and sound. The approach was an exercise in creating a sound instrument that was inhabitable and walkable, to explore site-specific sonorities. Simón, inspired by the sonic atmosphere generated during the improvisation, traced lines in real time, composing shapes that were distributed throughout the space.

Tension and resonance.

This is the exploration of an instrument that involves movement within itself and allows experimenting with tensions that converge on a single surface, which in turn is tensioned by the metallic structure characteristic of the space’s architecture. A space that holds history and resonates.
Rust and dust testify to the passage of time, wear, and history.
This is an exercise in possible instruments.
